Made to hold "Flip" a dearly loved mixed drink of colonial times, consisting of beer, rum and sugar; heated by plunging a red-hot poker or loggerhead into the mixture. The iron caused the drink to froth or flip. Flip glasses and recipes were popular in the 17th, 18th and early 19th-century.
This beautifully crafted flip glass was expertly reproduced by Blenko Glass (a family owned and operated company since 1893) from an original in the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation collections. Glassblowing was one of the Jamestown colonists' first attempts at industrialization and manufacturing in America. In 1608, the Virginia Company of London brought several German and Polish glassblowing artisans to Jamestown to set-up glassworks in the new colony. Celebrate America's glassblowing tradition with glassware reproduced from antique originals. A great conversation piece and addition to your bar.
